For a production class assignment, I redesigned costumes for Wednesday, breaking down the pilot script and choosing two characters to design for. We weren’t allowed to reference the show’s existing visuals beyond the actors themselves. For Principal Weems, I drew inspiration from Gwendoline Christie modeling for Margiela, referencing the silhouette and pose, and focused on clean lines and skirt cuts to create a crisp, blank-canvas aesthetic that highlights her shapeshifter ability, reinforced through black contrasting linings in coats and accessories. For Bianca, I aimed to convey both her status as queen bee and her nature as a siren. I emphasized individuality within the uniform dress code through layering, accessories, and dramatic teal eyeshadow to complement her vivid gaze. Details like pearl jewelry, a mermaid brooch, “fishnet” socks, and use of layers reflect the siren’s tendency to scavenge for treasures and her habit of pushing the dress code with opulent style.
